A Magical Stranger Comes to Town

In just a few seconds, Harry’s life has gotten from rough to very weird. Just a few moments ago, he had been at the Headmaster’s Office to fix up his old wand with the Elder Wand and was planning to what to do to keep it from very greedy hands. But when he gets to pick up his wand and feels relief upon reuniting with it, suddenly a mysterious portal appears out of nowhere and drags him away from his world and into a different place (world?).

He has no time to react and run as he gets dragged away and finds himself being dropped onto the ground without any warning. The young man manages to get up and begins to get the dust out of his clothes and tries to see how did he got separated from his friends and his school in such a manner. How will Ron and Hermione react to him disappearing in front of them like that? Is the British magical community going to set up a rescue mission to find him? He takes the time to look around and finds that he has arrived at a city with its buildings being so different from the ones he’s familiar with at home and wonders if he can ask for directions to him to take to return home as fast as he can.

But that will have to wait though as he soon discovers that he wasn’t alone in the city upon seeing dozens of people running away in a panic and what they are trying to get away from and it is not great news either: small black shadowy creatures are beginning to approach and they seem to want to get something from him. What is it they’re going after right now? Harry has dealt with threats and attacks targeted at him and dark wizards and witches who wanted him dead, but he certainly never encountered these things before in his life ever.

Sensing the danger he is, he has his wand out and ready and begins to cast spells to keep them away from him and any passing civilian in the area. Still these things can’t seem to take defeat as an answer as they keep on coming and swarming around him. It looks like he is going to need help to tackle this one, a lot of it in fact.

Sephiroth debates with himself and then says, "I should come inside with you to make sure." He heads for the door.

Harry nods quietly in return as he goes to follow Sephiroth to the door in question.

“Thank you, I greatly appreciate the thought. I hate to imagine getting ambushed by the Heartless without any warning.”

Sephiroth nods. "I should warn everyone in here about them as well," he says. "They won't know of the danger."

The stairwell looks alright and he heads out to the top floor so he can get to the elevator for faster travel. No Heartless on this floor either.

“Yeah. Everyone needs to learn of the dangers the Heartless possess right away. They have to watch out for any one of them running around,” Harry agrees with the plan as he looks at the staircase that have no sign of Heartless lurking around.

Sephiroth nods. "Once the immediate area is taken care of, I'll post a bulletin about them and have flyers made up to deliver everywhere."

He heads into the elevator and presses the button for the ground floor. That is the most potentially dangerous area.

“That would be a good idea to have a bulletin to let everyone know about the Heartless,” Harry chimes in as he gets in the elevator, “I don’t know how many people other than yourself who would be knowledgeable on them but it is always a helpful advice to get the word out there so the people can figure on what to do at times like this.”

“There are a handful of others, but yes, the majority here won’t know about them,” Sephiroth said. “I will write the bulletin as soon as things calm down enough to do so.”

“Yes of course. A good plan of action at that. It wouldn’t hurt to relay the information to the rest of the people at the hotel once things become less chaotic, I just hope that folks have found shelter away from the Heartless’ attacks and stay safe inside as well.”

“So do I.”

When they reached the bottom floor, the lobby was filling up with frightened, bewildered people. Heartless were looking in at them, but hadn’t got inside yet. Someone had locked the door.

“Well, it looks like someone was able to lock the doors to the hotel so the Heartless won’t get inside. That should keep them away from everyone here,” Harry tells Sephiroth as he tries not to look at the Heartless directly in the eye.

"Yes ... as long as they don't break the glass to get in," Sephiroth said in concern. It didn't seem likely such small creatures could do that, and maybe they couldn't., but he wanted to be as prepared as possible.

“We can hope that they don’t have the ability or strength to break through the glass so they can get in easily,” Harry nods in agreement, hoping that everyone present at the hotel would not be tempting fate and witness the worst possible scenario in front of them.

Sephiroth nodded. "These small ones shouldn't be able to, but there are larger and more dangerous Heartless that no doubt could." He hoped none of those would show up.

“There are larger versions of Heartless as well? Oh dear, that is pretty terrifying and I don’t want to witness what kind of damages they could bring,” Harry’s eyes widen in concern, not wanting to see how dangerous the bigger Heartless can be.

"Yes, there are unfortunately many varieties of Heartless," Sephiroth said. "And other dangerous creatures as well, such as the Nobodies I mentioned. If any strong hearts have become Heartless, the body and soul becomes a Nobody."

Oof, so many varieties of Heartless to deal with. That is going to be difficult to keep track of them and not get confused one for the other. Now Harry is getting more information on the Heartless and thus having a clearer picture of the creatures every minute.

“Hm, okay. I am getting a better sense of the Heartless types and Nobodies, we can only hope that there are no bigger versions of the Heartless roaming around in town too. I haven’t seen one myself just yet but they do sound like a very scary specimen to encounter.”

Sephiroth is definitely concerned thinking of everything that could be going wrong with this invasion. And the Heartless here don't seem inclined on going away. Perhaps ...

"They are definitely a problem. And these Heartless here may be lingering because they sense a strong heart, possibly my own." Maybe Harry's too.

The Heartless clawed at the door and hissed.

The Heartless’ attraction to strong hearts is enough to send chills down his spine. No wonder that they seem to be running all over the place. There are probably plenty of strong hearts in Edge for them to go after. He is terrified to think that it is even possible that it is why they are after him to begin with.

“Strong hearts? As in hearts with a strong emotional power or something similar?” Harry asks Sephiroth out of tempered curiosity and concern, “Feel free to correct me if I got that wrong.”

"Hearts with a strong will, or belonging to a person possessing incredible abilities, or both," Sephiroth says. Both apply to him.

“Oh my, that is both scary and eye-opening. No wonder we have to be on guard, people’s hearts are like food for Heartless to feast on, what a horrible fate to live through too,” Harry tries to make a good analogy to pinpoint as he speaks.

“Now I have to be on constant vigilance to make sure that I don’t end up as their next target,” he honestly never thought that Mad-Eye Moody’s motto of constant vigilance would fit apply to watching out for Heartless coming for one’s heart as well.

“Yes, exactly,” Sephiroth says grimly. “If anyone ever does get put together after becoming a Heartless, I’m sure the emotional scars run deep.”

“Oh Merlin, that is going to be difficult to recover from all that emotional scarring for a very long time,” Harry meekly nods as he takes another look at the Heartless trying to claw on the glass doors.

He has been through many emotionally traumatic stuff for his entire life (possibly more than most teens would experienced in their lifetime) and he isn’t looking forward to experience more of it again, and especially while he is stuck in another world that is facing a major Heartless problem.

Sephiroth nods. "I'll do my best to ensure that won't happen to you," he says. Steeling himself, he prepares to teleport. "I'm going to go outside and face them. Stay in here to look after the people in case any break in."

“Okay, that wouldn’t be a problem for me. I’ll do my best to make sure that everyone in the hotel will be looked after and won’t get harmed,” Harry nods in response as he speaks, “After all, we need at least one person stationed in here to keep them safe from the Heartless’ attacks.”

Defending a school hidden in an old castle in the Scottish Highlands is not a tough task for him, why would looking after a hotel full of scared people and protecting them from swarms of Heartless be any different for him?

Sephiroth nods in approval. "Good. I will try to cast a protection spell over the hotel after I dispatch of the Heartless."

He teleports outside, sword drawn, and goes after all of the Heartless while the people watch in worry and fear. The creatures swarm him from all sides and even drop down from above. He cuts through them with wide arcs of his sword, blasts the ones coming from above with fire, and stabs down at others. He is clearly in his element, fighting, and when the Heartless are gone he concentrates and a bright aura goes out from him, coating the building.

Satisfied, he teleports back inside. "It's done."
