EVENT: Dreams and Portals and 4th Walls, Oh My!

Well, lookie here! We have a new event! And it's a collab with another game, Missrecalled! How will that work, you ask? Here is the event info on their side:

Jordan was not the only person desperately trying to fix things that had gone wrong. On Gaia, the Sephiroth native to that world had been running himself ragged for the last several weeks, frantic to find a solution to what he had caused by bringing so many there through portals. It had been an accident, and his intentions when inadvertently activating the portals had been innocent, but that hardly mattered to him. He saw only that he had tried to do something for himself—using the Ancients’ magic to be sane again—and everything had turned on its head.

The Heartless attack had been the last straw. That was dangerous, that was deadly, and something had to be done. He had to send all of these poor people home.

And so he was struggling to open the portals. His will should be able to override whatever was keeping them closed, shouldn’t it? He certainly thought so.

In hindsight, perhaps he should have asked the other Sephiroth for help, given that that Sephiroth had the power of portal-making. But he hadn’t wanted to bother or burden anyone more than he already had. He had caused this on his own. He had to fix it on his own.

So while Jordan dreamed, Sephiroth fought with the portals.

What could possibly go wrong?

As it turned out, a lot. Both magic users, desperate to correct the problems in their worlds, reached out through the cosmos ... and the cosmos answered. A piercing portal developed from Auradon, through the Isle, all the way to Gaia, with the two blue-winged Sephiroths the unfortunate conduits. The dreamscape mixed with the waking world and portals began opening in both.

When this latest disaster exploded across Gaia, Sephiroth stared out the window in shock. Portals were everywhere, but people weren’t going through them back to their worlds. The energy he could feel from them didn’t even feel like the portals that had opened to start this whole mess. He went outside, looking into the nearest portal. The bizarre world on the other side, of flowers growing in the sky and clouds on the ground, looked like someone’s fever dream. Several more inane sights led him to conclude that the portals were indeed all going to people’s dreams. And upon talking with the recipient of one such dream, he made another alarming discovery: the portals were going to the dreams in other worlds.

He groaned and slumped back, running a hand down his face. “What have I done now?” he cried in dismay. Would he never be able to fix anything, only cause more destruction?


OOC Info: This is a collaborative event with the RP Missrecalled (info below). Characters from different worlds can either meet on the dreamscape while sleeping or pass through to Gaia while awake via the portals. But even in the waking world, the dreamworld is insisting on encroaching. The longer the madness goes on, the more the strange sights from people’s dreams are creeping into Gaia.

While there isn’t as much awake time on the Missrecalled side of things (and less and less of it as the event progresses), the Gaia side allows for people to be awake and not asleep if preferred. (Or they can dream on the Gaia side as well, if preferred.) The Sephiroths are dream-walkers and can pass through the dreamscape both asleep and awake. They can also take others with them. Everyone else can also use the portals to wander amid other’s dreams or pass through to Gaia if they were someplace else. The portals popping up in the waking world must be closed from inside the dreamscape, which the Sephiroths will be trying to take care of along with those who volunteer to help them. But there’s so many, it could take some time. And while any are open, things from people’s dreams are getting loose everywhere. Monsters, weird disasters, any distressing scenario dreaming people can come up with. Go wild! Just mark your threads accordingly if they have any content others may wish to avoid. Also keep in mind that as wild and weird as your dreams can be, you don't have the right to force that weirdness on others' characters unless they're okay with that. I.E., does your dream involve forced transformation into dogs or cats? Great! That's fine for you, but no one else should have to be changed if they don't want that. So either mark your thread that it's for those who want that weirdness, or have it open to all and expect to see some humans talking to your dogs and cats. :)

Given the nature of the event and the need to close so many dream portals, dream-walkers and characters with other dream-related powers will be especially useful. The Sephiroths could use all the help they can get! But everyone is welcome and all characters can help! Just know that if you’re going to try closing dream portals and you don’t have inherent dream powers, you’ll need to go with one of the Sephiroths. This is a combination collab event in which characters from both games can mingle, as well as a 4th Wall in which characters from anywhere and anything can appear, whether they’re in either game or not! Bring everyone! It’s like a test drive, only wilder. And the info on our collab partner: Missrecalled is a game based on an AU of Disney's Descendants/the Isle Of The Lost novels, taking place if the third movie ended slightly differently. The game is split in two parts; Characters who start in Auradon are welcomed to a seemingly-idyllic setting with only minimal power nerf that is exploration, slice of life, and working together plot lines. Characters who start on The Isle are in for a powernerf experience with survival and school themes. There are ways in game to change from one to the other, but they are not frequent and the pace is often player driven. The Missrecalled Mod Squad hopes to see you on the 4th wall... once upon a dream.

Things to note: Missrecalled has a magical no-swear filter, and requires FTB for physical intimacy scenes.

Sephiroth nods. "And it may prove difficult, as this house does not seem to be linear."

Indeed, the hall they're in looks different than it did a moment before. The rooms are not the same.

"Oh, one of the getting lost dreams again," the dreamer sighs.

Sephiroth frowns. This is not good. Speaking low, he says to Harry, "There is also the possibility of the dreamer suddenly waking up. If that happens, we will be thrust out of her dream. But whether we would return to the waking world or be stranded on the dreamscape, I am not certain."

“So does this mean we need to get out of here sooner or go find another dream to rescue instead?” Harry wonders about the possibility, “Oh Merlin, this house might as well be a living being of its own with how it could change its room layout or even room decor.”

“We need to get out as soon as possible,” Sephiroth says. “There is always that risk of the dreamer suddenly waking up. Usually, dreams don’t actually finish but shift to other dreams and then abruptly end upon awakening. She indicates these ‘getting lost’ dreams are usual for her. It may go on for some time, then, or it may not.”

He frowns. “I sensed the portal energy somewhere in this house, but now it changed position when the floor layout did. I believe it’s closer now. Stay alert.”

The dreamer opens a door and sighs. “Nope, I don’t recognize this room either.”

Harry nods quietly as they try to navigate around the house’s shifting layout and find the portal. The young man never thought that dreams can change things in a blink of an eye but now this particular dream is proving him wrong. It is hard to say if this is from the dreamer’s unconsciousness or if the house is responsible or if the ghosts are behind it but he is not letting not any slip ups to get him confounded all the time.

“Yep, the portal isn’t here,” he sadly notes before moving to track down the portal and treasure, “Oh, so it is not that far away now? Well, let’s hope that it doesn’t go into another location within the house again.”

Sephiroth suspects it's a normal dream, but he could be wrong.

"Um ... I wonder if what you're looking for is in one of the worst rooms," the dreamer says. "This one over here feels really bad."

She opens a door and the feeling that they're intruding is so strong, it makes it hard to breathe. The portal is swirling in the middle of the room.

“Oh Merlin! I think that this is the portal we’ve been looking for!” Harry tells Sephiroth as he stares at the portal swirling inside the room, “Now I think that we should close it real quickly before moving onto the next dream or head back to reality.”

As he is speaking though, the feeling of getting chocked up is also slowly getting a grip on him, making it hard for him to breathe normally in the portal’s presence.

“Yes,” Sephiroth agrees. “We need to …”

He trails off as the feeling grabs him like a vise. His wings go stiff. Forcing his will over the dream, he manages to hold out a hand and close the portal. He stumbles back, but wants to make sure Harry gets out first.

“Go,” he rasps.

While he couldn’t speak normally with the portal still up and running, the young man nods in return as he gets out of the dream through it. At least he doesn’t have to worry about getting caught off guard when the dreamer wakes up suddenly. That would be very embarrassing to deal with.

As he escapes the dream, he rolls down on the ground and it took a while for him to stop his movement after rolling out of the portal’s proximity. Now he is waiting for Sephiroth to return from shutting it down and think of what to do next for the next set of portals.

Sephiroth had planned to get both of them out through a portal of his own, but this works too. He soon appears. “There. Now she is free to dream of however many haunted rooms as she wishes.”

“Phew, thank goodness. She won’t have any bad dreams for a very long time,” Harry nods in agreement, “And maybe she and the Beetlejuice guy can find any treasure inside the house to their hearts’ content without fearing for their lives.”

"Hm, well, she may have bad dreams, but at least the contents won't escape into the real world," Sephiroth says. "And we, unfortunately, must keep traveling into dreams to seal the portals before that happens with anyone else's nightmares."

“Well, wherever the next portal to a dream is at, let’s get over there and track it down and seal it from the waking world,” Harry nods in response as he is ready to head into the next dream, “Now where do you think the next portal could be located in?”

“It would be so much easier if we could seal them from the outside,” he said. “They can only be sealed from inside the dreams.

“I see another over there.” He heads towards it.

“Okay, let’s get over there as soon as possible,” Harry agrees as he also heads for the portal, hoping that it will be less scary than what had happened in the first dream, “Let’s just hope that finding the portal in there won’t be as difficult as the last one.”

“Yes, normally the portal doesn’t vanish all over the place,” Sephiroth grunted.

He steps through first. It looks peaceful enough, just a quiet meadow. The portal is staying put for now.

Harry is a bit surprised to see the change in scenery. He will admit that he was expecting to see some chaos right about now. No evil spirts, no room layout change, not even the difficulty to breathe when near a portal. This meadow seems to be quite quaint in comparison.

“Huh, this is unusually peaceful in this dream right now,” he observes as he examines the meadow, “I wonder how long the peace will last in this dream.”

"If we seal the portal right now, we won't have to find out," Sephiroth deadpans.

At that moment, someone, probably the dreamer, dances into the scene, spreads her arms wide, and starts to sing.

"The hills are alive, with the sound of music ... ! Wait, there's no hills." She frowns, looking at the meadow. "Did I walk into the wrong dream?"

Sephiroth grunts. "Isn't this your dream?"

"Uh ... there was a portal thingy and I stepped through it to here!" she said.

"... Great. So now there are two portals." Sephiroth quickly seals this one. "Take us to the other one."

"It was ... right over here ... or was it here? This meadow looks alike!" the dreamer said in frustration.

“Madam, we don’t have the time to frolic around in the fields. This dream could be in danger due to unforeseen circumstances beyond what we can describe in words,” Harry tries to remind her, “If we don’t seal any wayward portals in this dream and a couple of others soon, monsters could invade the waking world at any moment.”

“I’m trying!” she says. “Maybe it was this way….” She goes back towards the way she came.

Sephiroth follows. So far, he doesn’t see the other portal. And if this person is a visitor like them, there’s no telling where the actual dreamer is or what they might dream.

The ground suddenly wobbles. Sephiroth pitches forward in shock. It feels like Jell-O.

“Whoa! What’s going on in here, an earthquake? In the middle of a meadow? Why would an earthquake suddenly happen in a place like this?” Harry gasps in shock as soon as he feels the ground moving beneath his feet and tries to keep his feet on the ground.

"The dreamer is dreaming that the ground is becoming wobbly," Sephiroth says, spreading his wings for added balance.

"Whoa! I want out of this weird dream!" exclaims the dreamer. "This isn't my dream!"

“Is there anything we can do to keep this dream from going horribly wrong?” Harry looks concerned as he speaks and tries to hang onto any stable ground, “I don’t know how long we have to get to the portal and seal it.”

"Let's try flight." Sephiroth reaches for Harry and the dreamer both, intending to fly up off the ground.

"Really?! I've always wanted to fly!" The dreamer holds onto him, eager.

“Great thinking, we should be able to get to the portal in no time. Now let’s go,” Harry chimes in as he grabs onto Sephiroth’s hand and makes sure that the dreamer is also able to hang onto the winged man.

As Sephiroth takes all of them away from the shaky ground, Harry does his best to not look down and be scared of the earthquakes from nowhere. Thankfully, his broom riding experience allows him not to be afraid of heights so his main concern is trying to keep his grip on Sephiroth’s hand as much as possible while in flight.

Gelatin-floor earthquakes are certainly something new, and a good example of how truly bizarre dreams are. As Sephiroth flies around in search of the other portal, the world starts shifting and suddenly they're in the middle of a very industrial area in a city. Steel buildings are everywhere.

"Whoa! Trippy!" says the dreamer.

"The dream is changing again," Sephiroth says in concern. Dreamscapes are such unstable places. Perhaps allowing anyone to ever come with him was a bad idea.
